Организация, которая положила начало процессу регулирования финансовой отчетности, представляемой компаниями. Требования биржи были включены в законодательство и в учетные стандарты. На практике же существуют отдельные требования, которые не нашли отражения в данных документах и действуют только для компаний, зарегистрированных на бирже и выпускающих акции в открытую продажу. Для регистрации на бирже (quotation, listing) компания подвергается тщательной проверке с целью обеспечения безопасности потенциальных кредиторов, а затем обязуется выполнять правила или требования биржи, которые изложены в требованиях биржи ценных бумаг (регистрационные) (stock exchange (listing) regulations), где поднимаются следующие вопросы: финансовой отчетности и порядка ее представления, обязательной публикации промежуточных результатов деятельности (interium accounts) и объявления информации, которая влияет на цены акций (share-price-sensitive information) и подаче ценных бумаг на регистрацию (admission of securities to listing), в которой присутствует раздел "продолжающиеся обязательства" (continuing obligations), где определены требования к раскрытию информации в финансовой отчетности.

1. Французское название фондовой биржи (stock exchange). Произошло от французского слова bourse (кошелек, богатство). Название “the Bourse” обычно относится к Парижской бирже, однако и другие континентальные рынки ценных бумаг известны под этим названием. Члены Парижской биржи, покупающие места на ней за огромные деньги, носят название agents de change (член фондовой биржи).

фондовая биржа (рынок)
Рынок (mаrket), на котором продаются и покупаются ценные бумаги, а цены на них определяются спросом и предложением. Первая фондовая биржа возникла в Амстердаме, где в 1602 г. начали продаваться акции Объединенной ист-индской компании. Британские биржи ведут свою историю с 1673 г., а первые ежедневные официальные котировочные листы стали издаваться в Лондоне в 1698 г. Развитие фондовых рынков шло рука об руку с развитием капитализма, а их значение и сложность постоянно возрастали. Основная функция фондовой биржи заключается в том, чтобы дать возможность публичным компаниям, государству и местным органам власти привлекать капитал путем продажи ценных бумаг инвесторам. Фондовая биржа выполняет также функцию вторичного рынка, позволяя одним инвесторам продавать свои ценные бумаги другим инвесторам, обеспечивая ликвидность и снижая риски, связанные с инвестированием. После Второй мировой войны в социалистических странах фондовые биржи были закрыты, однако с крахом коммунизма многие из бирж начали функционировать вновь. Главные международные фондовые биржи находятся в Лондоне, Нью-Йорке и Токио. За пределами Великобритании и англоговорящих стран биржу обычно называют словом bourse.
